Old Dominion announces Ryman residency

Friday, November 22, 2024 – Fresh off winning the Country Music Association "Vocal Group of the Year" award seven straight times, Old Dominion will do a seven-show residency from Feb. 3-6, raising money for seen charities

"When you're looking at the Oak Ridge Boys, who are a lot like Mount Rushmore," said lead singer/guitarist Matthew Ramsey, "you realize what an incredible family you're a part of. To have won this award, which they've won, Alabama's won, the Chicks won, so many great bands have won, let alone seven times in a row, that's a blessing.

"At this point, the best way to celebrate something like this – for us – is to play, to give ourselves and the fans a way to come together in these songs and to help raise resources for some great charities that are out there spreading goodness around trying to help people. But rather than doing a big show, we wanted to give ourselves the permission to strip it all the way back, create songwriter-type shows that aren't about production, but the songs; to take even more requests and be spontaneous, to create once in a lifetime experiences every single show. Where better to do that than at the Ryman?"

The charitiese are MusiCares, Save The Music. Backline Care, the Opry Trust Fund, CMA Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the The Ramsey Foundation.

"How crazy is it? Do something fun, help causes you really love and believe in? Sign us up! We can't wait. We're getting all the ideas together, but obviously, bring your signs. See all the Odies at the Ryman in February. It's gonna be awesome."

CD review - Memory Lane There are two ways to listen to Old Dominion's music. You can simply enjoy it for the feel, the lyrics, the beat...or you can study it as a master class in contemporary country songwriting and record production. Either way you're in for a treat, especially on this eight-song EP "Memory Lane." Hooks, harmonies, rhythms and feel-good images are everywhere here. Old Dominion (name chosen because four band members are from Virginia) originally formed to highlight songs that the ...
CD review - Old Dominion Old Dominion has gained a following on the heels of two albums of lively material. Their self-titled third release stays the course and delivers a dozen radio-friendly songs. The hyper positive lead single "Make it Sweet" sets the stage with an ode to the brighter side of everything. Most tracks are upbeat but, ironically, there is not an official party anthem or even a drinking song. The closest they get is "American Style," which is laden with standard innocent imagery ...
CD review - Happy Endings Right off the bat, the title of Old Dominion's album "Happy Endings" is far better than "Meat and Candy," its prior effort. ("Meat" in an album title? Really?) But also on an artistic level, OD's follow-up shows signs of growth. With that said, though, there's nothing on this new release as immediately catchy as "Snapback." Nevertheless, the vocal-only harmonies introducing "Not Everything's About You," are a beautiful thing. ...
