Jonson, Leon collaborate on "She Hurts Like Tequila"

Friday, March 28, 2025 – Cody Johnson and Mexican singer-songwriter Carin Leon released a collaboration, "She Hurts Like Tequila."

Johnson discovered Leon's music more than a year ago and invited him to write together. Those plans led to meeting up in Las Vegas where they were also joined by co-writers Trent Willmon, Johan Sotelo and Orlando Aispuro Meneses. "She Hurts Like Tequila" came out of that session.

The new song comes on the heels of Johnson's two week number-one single "I'm Gonna Love You" with Carrie Underwood.

Yesterday, Johnson received seven nominations morning for the upcoming 60th Academy of Country Music Awards. Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Song of the Year ("Dirt Cheap"), Single of the Year ("Dirt Cheap"), Music Event of the Year ("I'm Gonna Love You" with Carrie Underwood) and two nominations in the Visual Media category for "Dirt Cheap" and "I'm Gonna Love You.".

Leon's latest album, "Boca Chueca Vol. 1," won a GRAMMY Award for "Best Musica Mexicana Album (Including Tejano)." In 2024, he made history as the first Latin artist ever to perform at both Coachella and Stagecoach in the same year. He also opened for The Rolling Stones and made his debut performance at the iconic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

This 10-song album includes mostly familiar songs, including a traditional country arrangement of Willie Nelson's "Pretty Paper. ...
CD review - Ain't Nothin' To It It's not always easy to put your finger on why a particular artist moves you emotionally. It can be due to smart, Elvis Costello-like wordplay, or Vince Gill-esque instrumental greatness. Cody Johnson's "Ain't Nothin' To It" doesn't always shine with exemplary poetic couplets, nor striking musicianship. This is not to say the lyrics and music aren't bad, either. No, it's just that Johnson's authentic country voice is ultimately what makes the first ...
CD review - Gotta Be Me The sixth independent release from Southeast Texas singer/songwriter Cody Johnson is hit and miss. There are some good tunes that recall the '90s era work of George Strait, but there are some weak songs and most tracks are saddled with over-production from Trent Willmon. The opening title track is one of the stronger tunes, reminiscent not only of Strait, but a touch of Hank Williams as well, with Johnson proclaiming an affinity for past country legends ("I cut my teeth on/Those ...
