Thompson Square cancels shows due to vocal problems

Wednesday, May 29, 2013 – Thompson Square "has been forced" to cancel this upcoming weekend shows due to vocal issues for Kiefer Thompson, the band's web site said Wednesday.

"It breaks my heart to tell our fans today that we must cancel our upcoming concert appearances this weekend," the web site said in a statement from Thompson, who is in the duo with wife Shawna. "What many of you may not know is that I have recently been battling a very serious vocal condition. I was urged by doctors to cancel Thompson Square's appearances and go on complete vocal rest several weeks ago; however, neither Shawna nor I wanted to disappoint our fans, which we love and respect dearly. So, we chose to continue performing our scheduled shows while I remained completely silent offstage in an effort to heal. Unfortunately, at this time, I have been ordered by doctors to take the next step and to cancel this weekend's shows in an effort to heal internally."

"Words cannot express how devastated we both are to bring this news to our fans. Our fans are on our minds every moment of every day - you are the reason we're here and the reason we get to live our dream of making music for a living. We hope that you will understand what a difficult decision this has been and know that we can't wait to get back out on the road and make it up to you as soon as possible."

Thompson Square released its second disc in April.

Show cancellations include tonight's headlining show in Glen Allen, Va. at Innsbrook After Hours at the Snagajob Pavilion as well as Thompson Square's appearances on the following Luke Bryan Dirt Road Diaries tour stops. Those shows will go on as planned with Cole Swindell now appearing.

May 30 - Canandiagua, NY

May 31 - Hartford, CT

June 1 - Camden, NJ

June 2 - Boston, MA

"If you have scheduled Meet & Greets for these select shows we are working diligently to restore your Meet & Greet eligibility and appreciate your patience in this time," the statement said.

CD review - Masterpiece If there's a way in which Thompson Square can partner up, they will find it. The husband/wife and singer/songwriting team has added two more badges to their collaborations: parents (a baby son was born in 2016) and independent artists (the duo parted ways with Stoney Creek Records). TS's second record, 2012's "Just Feels Good," didn't exactly disappoint - it carried two Top 20 singles. Still, it was a bit of a retread and sold less than half of their debut. ...
CD review - Just Feels Good The ever-so-happily married Keifer and Shawna Thompson, equal halves of the duo Thompson Square, wasted no time taking the world by storm on their debut record. That disc went on to spawn 2011's most-played song on country radio, Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not. The curse of the sophomore jinx looms large, and many bands have fallen trying to hammer out a follow-up while navigating newfound stardom. Not, however, these two. Thompson Square has put together yet another bouncy set of country ...
CD review - Thompson Square Real-life couple duets carry an honorable tradition in country music. Who could forget the flirtatious sparring of Carter/Cash, the hard-times love of Jones/Wynette or swooning of Hill/McGraw? But rarely does a married couple enter into a musical partnership quite like Keifer and Shawna Thompson, aka Thompson Square. After two respective solo careers failed to catch fire, the Thompsons are now a full-time personal and professional team with a debut record. The lead single and hit, Are You ...
