Monroe: onto something good?

Wednesday, March 11, 2015 – Is Ashley Monroe "On to Something Good."?

That's the first track from her forthcoming album, which went to radio this week.

"This song speaks to where I am in my life and who I am," said Monroe, 28. "I'll get knocked down again. I got knocked down recently. And as long as we're living, things are going to happen that will bring us to our knees and you wonder how 'will I ever get through this?' And that's not going to stop as long as we're alive. I've learned that in these 28 years. But I've learned you can't get stuck in those bad times. If I'm alive and breathing, I'm not supposed to be stuck feeling sorry for myself. I'm supposed to keep going to whatever I'm going for, which I believe is something good."

Her well-received debut, 2013's "Like A Rose," had a background of sadness. Her father died an untimely death, and her debut was shelved.

Not all is difficult for Monroe. She got married to Chicago White Sox pitcher John Danks and is Pistol Annies with Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley.

The new song, produced by Vince Gill and Justin Niebank, came to radio a few weeks after Monroe scored her first number one, the "Lonely Tonight" duet with friend and label mate Blake Shelton. "Lost and found, I'm better dancing when I don't look down," Monroe sings in the song, written with Barry Dean and Luke Laird. "Hard times roll up but they don't hang around/I feel like I'm on to something good."

Monroe hits the road later this month with the Vince Gill and Friends Tour on March 19 and Miranda Lambert's Certified Platinum Tour beginning March 26. She'll also be making select festival appearances and joining Little Big Town for their 2015 Summer Tour.

CD review - The Blade Ashley Monroe gains more acclaim for other projects than she does for her own solo efforts. Monroe is one third of side group Pistol Annies. She sang with Blake Shelton on his hit "Lonely Tonight." She received praise for her first proper solo album (her ill-fated Satisfied" was released three years after its completion by her former label, Sony), "Like a Rose," in 2013, although that was a release that stood on the strength of the songs because three singles produced zero hits. ...
CD review - Like A Rose From the time the needle lands on the first groove of this album, with its plucky guitar and whirling accordion, until the raucous nod-and-a-wink of the roaring honky-tonk call-and-response of the final song, You Ain't Dolly (And You Ain't Porter), Ashley Monroe's pure country voice, reminiscent of Elizabeth Cook and Dolly Parton, grabs you. Gilded in soft beauty of Vince Gill's and Michael Rhodes' thumping guitars and Paul Franklin's luscious steel licks, the ...
