Sweeney returns with new CD

Thursday, January 26, 2017 – Sunny Sweeney, who enjoyed a bit of major label success, will release a new album in March.

"Trophy" will be released on March 10 via Thirty Tigers with 10 songs. Sweeney, 40, co-wrote the majority of the album with female writers, something that she didn't intentionally set out to do. Among the songs is "Bottle By The Bed, " a co-write with Lori McKenna, which expresses the sadness of not being able to have a child of your own. The album was produced by Dave Brainard, best known for his work on Brandy Clark's "12 Stories."

The track list is:
1. Pass the Pain
2. Better Bad Idea
3. Nothing Wrong With Texas
4. Pills
Bottle By My Bed
6. Why People Change
7. I Feel Like Hank Williams Tonight
*8. Grow Old With Me
9. Trophy
10. Unsaid

The Texan's last disc, "Provoked," came out in 2014. After achieving success as an indie artist of traditional country, especially with her 2006 debut "Heartbreaker's Hall of Fame," Sweeney signed with Big Machine and had a semi-hit with "From a Table Away." Sweeney later was with Republic Nashville, putting out "Concrete" in 2011.

Her debut release was shot through with that sensibility; based on this EP preview of her upcoming full-length, that is no longer the case, for good or ill. But then, to expect anything else would be naive. Sweeney is now on a major label, where success is measured in chart position and units moved; the fact that not one of the three singles from her first record, "Heartbreakers Hall of ...
