Fulks, Lewis go "Wild! Wild! Wild!"

Wednesday, May 30, 2018 – Robbie Fulks and Linda Gail Lewis, the sister of Jerry Lee Lewis, will release their first collaboration together this summer.

"Wild! Wild! Wild!" drops Aug. 10 on Bloodshot. The release was recorded in Chicago with Alex Hall (JD McPherson, Cactus Blossoms, Pokey LaFarge) and features musical contributions from Redd Volkaert (Merle Haggard), Danny B. Harvey, Scott Ligon and Casey McDonough (NRBQ, The Flat Five), Kelly Hogan (Mavis Staples, Neko Case), Joan Collaso, and Yvonne Gage.

Fulks produced the set. While Lewis handles the keys, Fulks sings, plays, leads the band, writes most of the songs, and arranges the others.

Lewis's recording career spans almost 50 years, loosely bookended by the present record and 1969's "Together," her duet album with Jerry Lee plus her release with Van Morrison, 2000's "You Win Again," in the middle. Fulks has made 13 solo records since 1996. His last one, 2016's "Upland Stories" was honored with two Grammy nominations, one for Folk Album and another for American Roots Song ("Alabama At Night").

Fulks and Lewis have played some shows together in Europe. As of now, they are slated to play seven shows together beginning in September in Nashville.

CD review - Upland Stories Twenty years ago, Robbie Fulks became a beloved alt.-country figure by writing modern honky tonk and country songs that rose above the work of many other contemporary traditionalists thanks to a combination of sharp wit and engaging storytelling. In 2013, Fulks gained critical acclaim for "Gone Away Backward," an album that took a deeper dive into history by embracing the traditional Appalachian folk music that proved to be country music's bedrock. That exploration continues with ...
CD review - Gone Away Backward Robbie Fulks is going backwards in more ways that one - not that that's a negative. For starters, he's back with Bloodshot - the label where he released four of his first six albums, but none since "13 Hillbilly Giants' in 2001. Also evident of his coming home feel is that he may hearken back even further to his time with bluegrass band Special Consensus as Fulks opts for an acoustic, often bluegrass sound, sometimes country or folk on these dozen songs. ...
