Beathard goes toxic on "Open Flame'

Friday, June 16, 2023 – Tucker Beathard explores a toxic relationship on "Open Flame," his latest release, out toeday on Warner.

Beathard penned the brooding, mid-tempo tune alongside Jeff Middleton and Brandon Hood.

"I actually wrote this song about a specific girl I dated years ago who lived in Michigan," Beathard said. "Our whole relationship kind of started and grew around the thrill of how toxic we were. That's really all we knew. So, when we broke up, there really weren't any hard feelings or burned bridges. We knew we were bad for each other, but also knew we were each other's favorite sin we couldn't resist. Then, a little over a year ago, I saw I had a show coming up in Michigan, and knew it was like playing with fire because we'd both have a tough time staying away from each other. So that's where my head was when this was written."

"Open Flame" follows tongue-in-cheek jam "Cheap Shots and introspective track "Who I Am With You."

Beathard also has enjoyed recent success as a songwriter. Bailey Zimmerman cut "You Don't Want That Smoke" (Beathard, Jimi Bell) on his record-breaking debut "Religiously. The Album." Kameron Marlowe's released "Over Now" (Beathard, Jake Mitchell).

Beathard first gained notice with his song "Rock On." His debut disc was "Nobody's Everything," which he followed up with "KING," a tribute to his late brother, who was stabbed to death in Nashville.

He approached this project with a different perspective having endured the stabbing death of his younger brother, Clay, in December last year. "King" acts as a tribute as the album bears Clay's middle name. Beathard co-wrote and produced all 13 songs. Sonically, most of the album features his signature hard rocking sound. ...
CD review - Fight Like Hell Not to put too much pressure on the kid, but Tucker Beathard's dad is Casey Beathard, one of Nashville's most respected songwriters. Although his single "Rock On" - which speaks to a guy's regret over not taking Beyoncé's advice to "put a ring on it" - rocks as hard as many of those songs his dad co-wrote with Eric Church, it also suggests Beathard has inherited some of his old man's skill at clever wordplay. Football also runs in ...
