Isbell, Merritt contribute to CD supporting sexual, reprodutive rights
The disc is being released by Noise for Now in partnership with the Artiost Rights Alliance. Benefitting The National Women's Health Network, the 16 exclusive tracks feature Andrew Bird, Ella Vos, Erin McKeown, CAKE, Katie Malco, Kev Decor, My Brightest Diamond, Rett Madison, Robert Ellis, sym fera, Tanner Porter, Thao, The Album Leaf and Trousdale.
Merritt created the concept after being concerned about The Heritage Foundation's Project 2025. Executive Producers, Merritt and manager Victoria Roe enlisted the support of musicians to meet the moment, gathering songs of tenderness, anger and joy.
While not outright banning abortion, the intent of the ideas proposed by Project 2025 would be aimed at curtailing abortions.
"We all have stories about how these regressive steps backwards play out in our lives, and in the lives of people we love," said Merritt. "I hope these songs open your heart to how important it is to stand up for bodily autonomy, reproductive freedoms, privacy and more love in the world no matter what it looks like."
NOISE FOR NOW enables artists and entertainers to connect with and financially support grassroots organizations that work in the field of reproductive justice including abortion access. Ninety percent of the album's net proceeds will be donated to the National Women's Health Network, an organization that improves health by strategically shaping policy, expanding access and providing unbiased information.

CD reviews
One of the four new tracks on this rerelease of Jason Isbell's "Sirens of the Ditch" is "The Assassin," and it features the same country/alternative rock hybrid sonic that characterizes Drive-By Truckers songs. Such an association is to be expected, though, as the album was Isbell's first solo release after leaving DBT. Furthermore, Patterson Hood and Shonna Tucker - each of DBT - played on the album. Much like George Harrison, just after leaving The Beatles, Isbell ...
Tift Merritt's gets off to a rip-roaring start by opening "Stitch of the World" with a song called "Dusty Old Man." If you can imagine it, the song sounds like Emmylou Harris fronting John Mellencamp's "Uh-huh" band from 1983. The album gets a little softer after this, although it's no less passionate throughout. Merritt may sing like a gentle soul, but she's the dedicated, persistent sort.

Americana guitarist and singer-songwriter Jason Isbell started as part of Drive-By Truckers and is now a drive-by revolutionary.
"Something More Than Free" is his sixth release outside of the band and a follow-up to his 2013 award-winning album, "Southeastern." Isbell carries his group roots with him as he also makes a voice for himself, exploring his southern origins with a progressive nostalgia that's in-touch with audiences of all generations. His sound might be ...
