Johnny Cash's "At Folsom Prison" gets deluxe treatment
Friday, September 5, 2008 – An expanded version of one of country's great live albums is coming Oct. 14. Johnny Cash recorded "At Folsom Prison" on Jan. 13, 1968. Commemorating the 40th anniversary of this recording, "Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison: Legacy Edition" features previously unreleased materials including a new documentary film with exclusive footage from behind the walls of Folsom Prison. As Folsom's residents erupt in raucous response to Cash on stage, this film's footage captures the mutual respect he held with the inmates. This camaraderie is particularly evident in Cash's performance of "Greystone Chapel," a song written by Folsom inmate Glen Sherley about the facility's building of spiritual refuge.
The DVD also features unpublished images of Cash in the crowning moment of his career, captured by rock and roll photographer Jim Marshall and new interviews with Merle Haggard, Rosanne Cash, Marty Stuart and former inmates who witnessed the concert.
