Lukas Nelson, Wall, Bush release new music

Friday, July 14, 2023 – Lukas Nelson and his long-time backing band, Promise of the Real, release a 12-song disc, "Sticks and Stones" today. Self-produced by Nelson and his longtime band, POTR, the record includes the current single. - the title track - and his previous single, "More Than Friends," featuring Lainey Wilson. Nelson, who is the son of Willie, produced the disc.

Western Canadian singer and country traditionalist Colter Wall is out with "Little Songs" on La Honda Records/RCA Records. The 10-song disc contains eight songs penned by Wa and a song apiece from Ian Tyson and Hoyt Axton. Wall cut the disc with his longtime touring band at Yellowdog Studios in Wimberly, Texas where he recorded 2020's "Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs."

Kristian Bush, who is one-half of dormant band Sugarland, released an EP, "Drink Happy Thoughts." The release is as seven-song, summer-themed release.

Tyler Farr, best known for his song, "A Guy Walks Into a Bar," is out with an EP "Rednecks Like Me" on Broken Bow Records/Night Train Records. This marks the first time that Farr has helped pen all the songs on one of his releases. Produced by Jason Aldean with his long-time band-members Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy, The six-song release includes the release "Country As Shit" featuring Jelly Roll.

Alana Springsteen is out with "TWENTY SOMETHING: Figuring It Out," the second installment of her forthcoming three-part debut album, "TWENTY SOMETHING." The six-song release includes the song "ghost in my guitar" with Chris Stapleton helping out on vocals. Springsteen produced every song with five other producers helping out.

CD review - Sticks and Stones Is the fact that Lukas Nelson has a famous father (Willie Nelson) a blessing or a curse? One might well wonder if this is somehow the case because he deserves so much more attention than he gets. Listening to "Sticks and Stones" offers plenty of new evidence that Lukas inherited great songwriting skills from his dad. It's one of his best efforts to date, too. The title track is a rather serious response to any and all that might judge Nelson and attempt to hurt him with mere words. ...
CD review - A Few Stars Apart With songs written during lockdown and recorded during the worldwide pandemic, much of Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real's "A Few Stars Apart" deals with human connections and survival. The vocal resemblance of frontman Nelson to his father, Willie, is inescapable on many tracks, particularly with the opening "We'll Be Alright," which projects optimism in troubled times ("And we can hold on/Through struggle and strife/Despite all the darkness/We'll be alright"). ...
