Editorials and Country Musings

Sunday proved to be a night of extreme highs and lows for Taylor Swift. On the extremely positive side, the superstar garnered four Grammys, including Album of the Year for the very fine "Fearless." Swift has proven her mettle as a solid songwriter with lots of good tunes. Just how country it is is open to interpretation. Let's just say that she and traditional country singers have little in common. But in the context of what constitutes country today, Swift is probably no better or worse than most of the singers and performers out there.  ...
Music makes very very strange bedfellows. Taylor Swift and Kanye West will share it metaphysically anyway as they were named Billboards female and male artists of the year, it was announced Thursday. Swift was the only country artist in either category unless Miley Cyrus is included, and shes less country than a lot of other folks who say theyre country. For those with short memories, West was the guy who interrupted Swift when she won a Video Music Award a few months back, and went on a massive tirade saying that Beyonce was the most deserving artist.  ...
Once again, Taylor Swift has struck it rich. The teenager (can't say that for much longer) received eight Grammy nominations on Wednesday night with everything from best album to best country album. A very nice accomplishment for the country superstar with a massive teenage audience. The road to taking home a Grammy will not be easy, especially considering Beyonce goes head to head with her. Beyonce received the most nominations of any artist with 10. Both were nominated for album, record and song of the year.  ...
Taylor Swift's showing at the Country Music Association awards Wednesday night was no surprise. In some respects, it was invigorating to see someone who was not male and not around umpteen years like some of her male counterparts take home the biggest prize of the night, entertainer of the year. And Swift was deserving of the award. Her "Fearless" album , which won album of the year, was very strong on the Swift-penned lyrics with a bunch of good melodies as well. She competed against some solid discs particularly Brad Paisley's "American Saturday Night" and out of left field Jamey Johnson's "That Lonesome Song."  ...
Will the Taylor Swift wave continue? She's been a big seller getting oodles of press and just last weekend hosting and playing on Saturday Night Live? So will the teen star win the Entertainer of the Year Award at the Country Music Association awards tonight? Kenny Chesney has been on a big roll in winning the big award three years running, but it looks like Swift has a lot of momentum going. Of course, that is no sure bet with Keith Urban also having a big year, but the four guys (Brad  ...
Taylor Swift is on a huge roll - big sales of her album "Fearless," well at least in this day and age. Hit singles. Fans flocking to her shows. She's all over the place in the media. Today, the news got even better for her as she started selling tickets to her 2010 shows. Two shows at New York's Madison Square Garden reportedly sold out in less than 60 seconds, according to her publicist. A slew of other shows sold out their seats immediately also. That's good for Swift, but is it so good for fans?  ...
Way to go Kanye (sic) (Sep 2009)
Kanye West made an outright ass out of himself Sunday night in messing with the Video Music Association awards at the expense of Taylor Swift. She had just won the award for best female artist for her video of You Belong to Me. Swift won her first VMA and was clearly, if predictably, excited. West, an interloper at past award events, got up there and took the mike from Swift just after she started thanking the crowd. West said Beyonce had one of the best videos going. He gave the mike back to Swift, who was shook up by West and could not finish.  ...
Taylor Swift can't sing live. That is the unfortunate truth after seeing her perform on the Country Music Association awards in November and again at the Grammys concert this week. She offered by far the worst performance at the CMAs with her take on her hit single Love Story. And at the Grammys, she butchered Brenda Lee's I'm Sorry, which morphed into her own better sounding White Horse. This is not meant as any sort of personal bash against Swift. For non believers,  ...
